The common pitfalls

Most electrification studies still take a like-for-like approach, replacing gas boilers with high-temperature heat pumps, which produces poor economics and technical constraints. Real barriers include plant-room space, electrical capacity, existing distribution temperatures, tenancy disruption, and incomplete data on actual heat loads. Many projects stall because the first business case looks unattractive, even though lowering system temperatures or staging the transition can unlock viable pathways. Skills and supply-chain gaps further slow delivery.
